Hi Don,

Honey bees behave like what you describe during the winter/early spring
when there aren't any flowers around. They're after the film of dust/pollen
in seed mixes, especially associated with corn. They can be very active on
warm winter days - there were a few buzzing me in Canaan today while
viewing the grosbeaks (the hives are across the street from the feeder).
