How Do Herons Target Underwater Prey Through the Reflective and Refractive Surface of the Water?
Speaker: Holly Brown
In order to target underwater prey, herons that hunt in the day must cope both with glare at the surface of the water, and with refraction, changes in the angle of light as it passes from water to air. Holly will talk about her research on behavioral and anatomical mechanisms that may allow herons to compensate for glare, as well as how herons may be able to use refraction to their advantage while hunting.
Free and open to the public.
