I hiked up to the Trout Brook Valley Preserve (Easton) orchard early this
morning to pick some blueberries and found a few interesting nesting birds,
as well as wanderers. There were at least two, possibly three, WHITE-EYED
VIREOS. I heard two singing at the same time from opposite sides of the
blueberry patch at the south end of the orchard, and saw another on the way
out on the magenta trail. This seems to be an exceptional year for them in
the state. There were two ORCHARD ORIOLES in the orchard (adult male,
first-year male), as well as a nice collection of swallows, including a
juvenile BANK SWALLOW sitting on a wire among a mixed group of swallow
species (Tree and 20 Cliff, including juveniles). Several BOBOLINKS flew
over - either nesters or wandering birds.
