7/7  Stratford - A morning check of some Stratford shorebird sites found several species of southbound-migrating shorebirds: 4 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, 3 Least Sandpipers, 28 Short-billed Dowitchers (total in three small flocks). These species nest in (northern) Canada and Alaska, and leave their precocial young to fend for themselves (or with their mothers).
I also searched unsuccessfully yesterday and today for the probable LITTLE EGRET X SNOWY EGRET Hybrid that Nick Bonomo found on July 1. Note that mosquitoes are currently abundant around the coastal marshes and pools.
