Hi Folks, About 8:30 PM this evening (Sunday 6/9/17) mother eagle declared
play time. About a minute or so earlier, the newly fledged chick - The
Empress Josephine - had landed on top of the left cottonwood tree. Mom -
Queen Elizabeth II - came out of the sky, tucked her wings back and body
checked her daughter into thin air, then landed on the branch the fledge had
been on and sang at the top of her lungs. Josephine decided this was lots of
fun so she went up about 150 feet or so and tried to dive bomb her mom. Mom
saw this coming so she took off. The chase that ensued was legendary. All
the while, Daddy Bird - Prince Phillip - set on his roosting branch knowing
full well that he was out of his weight class. It ended when Mom joined Dad
on his roosting branch and the chick nearby, all settling down for an
evening's sleep. Regards, Mike Horn, Hamden, CT
