Many COA members may remember Julio de la Torre, the jovial, charismatic birder, author and naturalist born and raised in Cuba but moved to New Canaan in his twenties with his family.
Most of us remember Julio as an owl expert and author of 'Owls: Their Life and Behavior" who led many owl prowls as president of both the New Canaan Audubon Society and the Linnaean Society.
Not so well known is that Julio spoke five languages fluently (including classical Greek) and was a semi-professional opera singer who would often break into song during lulls on a field trip!
Julio was an intellectual with a fine mind, a great sense of humor and a wonderful warm personality.
Julio passed away peacefully at the Norwalk hospital on July 8.
His obituary is here: http://www.hoytfuneralhome.com/memsol.cgi?user_id=1984690
