A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was in the hedgerow in the NE corner of the Trout
Brook Valley Preserve orchard this afternoon (right where the Say's Phoebe
was last year), along with single White-crowned and Lincoln's Sparrows. A
quick check of Aspetuck Reservoir on the way home turned up two female
NORTHERN SHOVELERS, along with 41 Am. Wigeon, 27 Ring-necked Ducks, and 7
Gadwalls (locally scarce) among others. The ducks on Aspetuck this fall
have been avoiding the fountain area, favoring instead the middle of the
lake near the pull-off along 58 (just north of where the highway runs right
along the west edge of the reservoir). Both Aspetuck Reservoir and TBV
Preserve are off 58 in Easton.
