[CT Birds] Milford Point LONGSPUR, Am Golden Plover, Knot, Nelson’s

10/18. Milford, Milford Point - the SUNRISE BIRDING walk this morning resulted in 58 bird species, with great views of almost everything on this beautiful fall morning. Highlights: 330 Brant, Gadwall, Northern Pintail, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, ten species of shorebirds including 34 American Oystercatchers, 140 Black-bellied Plovers, 1 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, 1 RED KNOT, 3 Short-billed Dowitchers, 1 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, LAPLAND LONGSPUR ( on west end of sandbar with 2 Horned Larks), and 8 species of Sparrows including nice looks st 9 NELSON’S SPARROWS. Numerous Monarch butterflies still migrating south.
