Around this time a year ago there was concern that the Loxahatchee N W R in Florida would lose protection. The state leases the land to the U S Fish % Wildlife service with the understanding that the feds control exotic species on the refuge. The state took the stand that the process was not moving along fast enough and took the approach to dissolve the partnership between the state and the feds putting the refuge in jeopardy. After 67,000 people voiced their concerns a new agreement was reached between the state and the Fish % Wildlife Service! So it really pays to speak up!
