[CT Birds] Milford Point shorebirds!

7/23. Milford, CT Audubon Coastal Ctr at Milford Point - It is mid-July, but shorebirds are on the move, and Tern numbers are gradually building. Highlights from 2 hours on sandbar this morning:
13 species of shorebirds including about 2000 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 2 WHIMBRELS, 1 gorgeous RED KNOT, 1 adult WESTERN SANDPIPER, 1 Dunlin (apparently summering).  Also 104 Common Terns, 2 Least Terns, 1 Immature BONAPARTE’S GULL.
Inexperienced shorebirders should be aware that Sanderlings now (with their reddish necks) can superficially resemble much rarer  Stints.
