Lighthouse Point Park, New Haven, 9-20-2018, 7am-4pm. A north wind most of the day was just enough for 144 hawks, mostly Osprey, to pass by the park today. 76 Osprey, 3 Bald Eagles, 5 Northern Harrier, 23 Sharp-shinned Hawk, 12 Cooper’s Hawk, 1 Broad-winged Hawk, 8 American Kestrel, 4 Merlin, 5 Peregrine Falcon, 2 Unknown Accipiter, 4 Unknown Falcon, and 1 Unknown Raptor were counted with the help of Sol Satin. There were also a few local Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks and a Black Vulture nearby. A few Purple Finch and Dickcissel flew by in the morning. And large flocks of Blue Jays are beginning to appear. Please go to the Lighthouse Point Park page at hawkcount.org for a more complete account of the migrating hawks, including species counts by the hour. Go to the Lighthouse Point Park eBird Hotspot for a checklist of other birds seen.
