[CT Daily] 12/13/2007 WW Crossbills, Pine Grosbeacks

 From Paul Carrier & Ray Zisk:
12/13 - Norfolk, Canaan MT Rd -- 3 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL feeding from
spruce trees on left of rd. This is private property though, so please
respect this and do not enter the spruce grove. They were seen from
car from the rd, but soon flew south into forest.
(Falls Village?, Under Mountain Rd -- with blinding snow, just in from
rt 63 on right of rd were 4 PINE GROSBEAKS feeding with Robins from
berry bushes. They flew into high spruces in back of field.

12/12 -  Waterford, Niantic Bay -- JAEGER SPECIES (Possibly Pomarine)
among six NORTHERN GANNETS, five adults one immature.

12/13 - East Hartland, at the intersection of CT 20 and the northern
end of Old Town Road -- 13 PINE GROSBEAKS, also 2 COMMON REDPOLLS at
the elementary school where the grosbeaks were previously reported in
a small tree on the north side of the school.

12/13 - Storrs, UConn campus -- two Pine Grosbeaks feeding in the crab
apple trees that line the parking lot behind the Dodd Center in the
middle of campus (the Dodd Center is immediately south of the main
library).

12/13 - Wethersfield, Wethersfield Cove -- 1 adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULL.

12/13 - Watertown yard -- 3 COMMON REDPOLLS coming to feeders during
snow storm.

12/13 - Madison, Hammonasset SP -- The flock of 20-25 Red Crossbills
continue in the pines near the West Beach parking lot.
At the end of the Morraine Trail -- 1 Common Eider, 23 Purple
Sandpipers.

12/13 - Westport, Sherwood Island SP -- 30+ COMMON REDPOLLS in
birches. 10 SNOW BUNTINGS in parking lot to the right of the airplane
field, then flew and landed in the rotary circle.
Westport, Burying Hill Beach -- adult LESSER BLACK -BACKED GULL
West Norwalk, Norwalk Community College -- VESPER SPARROW behind NCC  
in field as reported.
Wilton, Allen's Meadow -- imm NORTHERN SHRIKE continues.
East Norwalk, Feeder & Woods -- 4 Purple Finches, 2 Pine Siskins,

12/13 - East Haven, Proto Dr. -- 2-4 Common Redpolls

12/13 - Mystic yard -- about 25 COMMON REDPOLLS

Snow Bunting on lawn feeding with Juncos and Sparrows.  Branford yard,
9 Purple Finches at the feeders.

12/12 - mouth of the Thames River -- 100+ BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 4+
NORTHERN GANNETS, 1 COMMON EIDER (female).
Smith Cove off of the Thames River -- 10+ BLACK VULTURE, WHITE-WINGED
and BLACK SCOTER.
Groton, Eastern Point -- 4 SNOW GOOSE.

working the trees and partaking of the suet
