We hope everyone had a good January of birding. With the month ending
we have a couple of things to cover.
First, anyone with a total of at least 90 species seen in Connecticut
in January is invited to send their totals and in a week or ten days
we will post the numbers and names. No, we don't need the list of
species, just the count.
Second, now that we don't need to provide information on anything a
little unusual to help those trying for a good January, we will be
going back to following the standard rules and not reporting birds on
the Common Birds list. So no more Flickers and Catbirds for now. The

GRACKLES at 7am
Stratford, Oak Bluff Ave., Long Beach -- 1st-winter ICELAND GULL
continues
Stratford, Short Beach saltpond -- 138 GADWALL
Milford, Oronoque Rd., Waste Transfer Station -- hundreds of gulls
including 1st-winter ICELAND GULL.
Milford, Caswell Cove -- 9 RUDDY DUCKS
1/30 Westport, Compo Beach - 1 adult NORTHERN GANNET

1/31 -Bradley International Airport -- PEREGRINE FALCON. I was able
to read her left leg band...she is the same bird I observed on
November 4, 2005 at the airport. She was banded on May 20, 1994 at
the Riverside Church, upper west side of Manhattan, NY.

1/30 - Madison, Hammonasset State Park -- LAZULI BUNTING 11:15 a.m.
The bird was approximately halfway between the Rotary and the East
Beach parking area along the main road in the pines closer to the
Rotary. It was alone and not with either the flock of Savannahs or the
flock of mixed sparrows and Cardinals by the East Beach parking area.
