As if the HARRIS'S SPARROW and COMMON GROUND-DOVE were not enough,
today also brought reports of WESTERN KINGBIRD, CATTLE EGRET,
WHITE-WINGED CROSBILL, EVENING GROSBEAK, BLUE GROSBEAK


 From Joe Bear via Julian Hough:
11/04 - Wilton, Allen's Meadow -- HARRIS'S SPARROW showing well at
seed as of 8:30 AM.

11/04 - Wilton, Allen's Meadow -- HARRIS'S SPARROW from 8am till 10am;
also Red-breasted Nuthatch (1), American Pipit (2); Vesper Sparrow
(1), Lapland Longspur (1), Purple Finch (6), Pine Siskin (3).

 From Tony Amato and about 10 others:
11/04 - Wilton, Allen's Meadow -- The Harris's Sparrow was well seen
perched in a small tree at the community gardens.   I viewed it from
about 8:10 to 8:30 this morning.  It then flew into the fenced off
garden.  Others were trying to relocate it when I left at 8:30.  Very
close looks.  Also 1 American Pipit.

11/04 - Wilton, Allens Meadow, (Back of the community garden area) --
HARRIS'S SPARROW adult was observed & photographed well at serveral
locations nearby from 1:30-4:53PM. Other sightings. 1 VESPER SPARROW,
100+ RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS flyby.

11/04 - New Hartford,  Bakersville Swamp, Maple Hollow Rd. (north side
of swamp by cow pasture) --  1 WESTERN KINGBIRD ~10:00-10:45 hrs.

11/04 - Barkhamsted/Hartland, Rte 20 & Rte 181 -- 1 WHITE-WINGED
CROSBILL, 2 FOX SPARROWS, 2 RUFFED GROUSE.  The Crossbill was heard
and seen from a swamp along Rte 20 (flying southwest) between Hi-View
and Mill Road in Hartland approximately 8:30am.

11/04 - Stamford, Cove Island Park -- CATTLE EGRET sitting in a cedar
tree on the Southeast tip of the park.

11/04 - Harwinton feeder -- 4:00; 7 EVENING GROSBEAK ( 6 males, 
1 female); also 2 to 3 PINE SISKINS daily, and an Im GOSHAWK  for a
week now in neighborhood.

Standard Time!)

Field near Great Pond, Glastonbury -- WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW.

11/04 - Portland backyard -- 1 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH at birdbath, 1
male PURPLE FINCH, 4 female PURPLE FINCHES.  Finches eating sunflower
seed, ignoring thistle seed.

11/04 - Madison, Hammonasset Beach SP -- 7:30-10:30 AM; 1 American
Bittern in wader pool to east of nature center lot; 1 Common Eider
(hen) on rock close in at end of Moraine Trail; approximately 15
American Pipits at middle beach lot (south of wetland restoration
pond); Purple Sandpiper on Mieg's Breakwater; 20+ Northern Gannet
including 9 in one binoc view with 5 (4 adults) very close in and
diving among flock off gulls in feeding frenzy at rip off tip of
Meig's Breakwater.  Huge splash - gulls scatter and re-group. Bluefish
could have been driving peanut bunker to surface.

 Jan Collins:
11/04 - Somers --  8 AM, 30+ AMERICAN PIPITS continue along Hutton Rd.
