[CT Daily] 01/04/2008 Pine Grosbeaks

NOTE: Dori looked at the remaining supply of fruit in Norfolk where
the Pine Grosbeaks have been so reliable for the last couple of weeks,
and reports that there is not much left compared to what she first
saw.  Birders who want to take advantage of this reliable location
might want to not delay too much longer.


 From Dori Sosensky and Lynn James:
1/04 - Norfolk, Shepard Rd -- 23 PINE GROSBEAKS, including 3 males,
around 2 PM.

 From Renee Baade:
1/04 - Norfolk -- PINE GROSBEAKS, not seen around noon, but found at
least 12 to 15 found after lunch.

 From Alex Coffey:
1/04 - Woodbridge, West Rock - PEREGRINE FALCON; 
Milford, Milford Point -- LINCOLN'S SPARROW, on the side of the
overlook opposite the Coastal Center around 2PM.

 From Carl Ekroth:
1/04 - Madison, Hammonasset State Park -- 9:30, in the pines near the
pavillion east of the west beach parking lot, about 6 RED CROSSBILLS,
and 1 male WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL.  Also had 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 2
SNOW BUNTINGS, 1 light morph ROUGH LEGGED HAWK.
West Haven, boat launch -- at least 3 REDHEAD out in the large raft of
scaup,
West Haven, Bradkey Point -- 2 PURPLE SANDPIPERS.

 From Joe Bear:
1/04 - Wilton yard -- Small numbers (3 this a.m.) of Common Redpolls
continue at our thistle feeders.

 From Scott Henckel:
1/04 - Shelton yard -- 2 Common Redpolls, 1 Pine Siskin, 1 Red-bellied
Nuthatch.

 From Bill Banks:
1/04 - Southbury, Cassidy Road, Southbury Training School --
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, light phase.
