01/18/15 - Enfield, Barnes Boat Launch -- drake BARROW'S GOLDENEYE.
The bird was feeding near the Rt 190 bridge which may best be accessed
via the end of South River Street (viewed from the road). The birds
are quite active so it could be in a large range from the Rt 190
bridge north to the cemetery. Record picture posted to eBird.

01/18/15 - Hamden, yard -- 23 Rusty Blackbirds.  Pretty much on
schedule for our backyard, Rusty Blackbird numbers have begun to
build.  Typically mid Jan is when the become more regular. For the
last few weeks it's only been a few here and there.  Also a single
Pine Siskin at the thistle (with the goldfinch).

01/18/15 - Guilford, East River Marsh off circle Beach Rd (coming in
from Neck Rd in Madison) -- 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at 9:30 AM, perched on
post near osprey platform and also flew to nearby houses to perch.  At
11 AM the bird has returned to the post on the entry road to the boat

01/18/15 - Madison, Neck Rd boat launch -- 3:50 PM; the very
waterlogged Rough-legged Hawk was still present.  It moved from the
Osprey platform to a bare tree branch to a post in the marsh grass.

01/18/15 - New Haven -- Iceland Gull visible in Quinnipiac River from
Fargeorge Preserve (Quinnipiac Meadows) birdwatcher's blind (in New
Haven) (or you can view from Front St on west bank).

01/18/15 - Central Village, Quinebaug Fish Hatchery -- Sunday Walk
highlights included NORTHERN PINTAIL (drake), BROWN CREEPER, PURPLE
FINCH (1f).
Sterling, yard, feeders -- with birding group after the walk; PINE

01/18/15 - Stratford, Birdseye Boat Ramp -- the American Bittern was
still present this morning, affording excellent views as it stood and
pursued prey in the marsh grass at high tide.  Seen by the intrepid
(and rain-soaked) New Haven Bird Club field trip participants.

01/18/15 - Milford, Milford Point -- 1 Northern Pintail, 20 Snow
Stratford, Birdseye Boat Ramp -- 2 AMERICAN BITTERNS.  One was first
found in grasses.  During this time, another bittern flew in from a
different direction.  Prior to the 2nd bird flying in, the first bird
never flew away.
