Around 7:45 am a call came from the east side of the marsh that's east of the Hammonassett entry boths:
One-level note repeated 8 to 10 times. About 2 notes/second. I instantly thought of a white-breasted nuthatch call slowed down to 33%.
So, any guesses that have me Googling?

Hi Joe,
The nuthatch’s song and call sound similar, but the call is much slower.
