I spent the better part of an hour watching the sparrows at Nod Brook WMA, Simsbury -- sparrows are not my strength so I was careful to watch and be sure of IDs. But if you want sparrows, that inland pond is good -- the margins and brushy areas by the road had a lot. I saw eight species: song, white-throated, swamp, tree, Savannah, field, white-crowned, and dark-eyed juncos. I may have seen the clay-colored that had been reported there, but not sure. I did not see the siskin that was reported to be with the goldfinches, nor the grebe -- hunters at the southern pond and no waterbirds to be seen... next trip maybe!
