The Whippoorwills reported in eBird on Summer Hill Rd, Madison, are very chasable, starting to sing about 8:30, to the east. I parked & walked up and down about a 1/2 in either way. It is buggy (good!), I was glad I was in my bug-proof clothing.  You can get from 79 via County Rd. to the n. end of Summer Hill

Some got very close, & 1 or 2 flew in sight close over head. As it grew darker, I could see how 1 or 2 would land on the road and fly up at insects.  At least 3 birds, likely a few more.

Very cool! Lovely calls.

That was my 95th species for the month, and 177th for the year, only 5 fewer than my entire total last year.

Also at least 3 Wood Thrush, close in quiet, well heard.  B&W Warbler, too.
