Unusual bird behavior last night around midnight…I was awakened by a Blue Jay calling several times in succession, then silence. I don’t ever remember hearing a Blue Jay calling that late at night before. I’m used to hearing certain birds at night, especially during migration, but this one was odd for sure!

Jim,
In addition to mockingbirds singing at night, as everyone knows, I have heard cardinals and catbirds singing full songs at night. One catbird was singing continuosly but in a well lit area at 4am. Blue Jays are very active feeding pretty large offspring right now, so I suppose they could be putting in "extra hours."
