MEGA BOWL UPDATE

Hello again, fellow CT Birders!

The sixth annual Mega Bowl of New Haven County and the second annual Mega Bowl of Connecticut will be held on Saturday, February 5th, 2022.   All birders are welcome to participate in this fun and friendly event.  Birders have the choice of either birding within an entire county or within a circle with a 5-mile radius.  The latter yields an area of approximately 78 miles (!) so there is still ample opportunity to bird in numerous locations and see a lot of birds.  The circle should include the residence of the participant(s) as much as is feasible, but the residence does not have to be the center of the circle.  The original format of birding in an entire county may be most attractive to those birders who have participated in the event before as they will be challenging themselves to improve upon (or at least match) their accomplishments from previous years.
The Mega Bowl will run from 7 am to 5 pm on February 5th.  There will be a compilation Zoom meeting on the evening of the 6th when the results will be announced and prizes awarded.
In order to sign up for the Mega Bowl, send an email to me at closcalz@optonline.net.  I will send you a copy of the checklist for the county that you will be birding in, with the point values for each species listed on the checklist.  There are different checklists for the inland counties versus the coastal counties.  You are encouraged, but not required, to come up with a fun name for your team, if you like.  The soft deadline for signing up for the Mega Bowl is Wednesday, February 2nd, but the sooner you and your birding friends sign up, the better!

Thanks and good birding,

Chris Loscalzo,
Mega Bowl Coordinator (and member of the Winter Wrenegades team)
