7/28 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center.  9:55-11:25am.  partly
cloudy/partly sunny, low tide, nice cool breeze.
On the marsh:  Our purple martin colony is bustling! There were about 32
flying around and lots of beaks peeking out of the gourds.  #2 gourd had 4
little heads poking out. 2 Great egrets, 3 ospreys, 3 mute swans, 1 Yellow
crowned night heron (adult) and 1 juvenile and about 20 "peeps" flew over.
On the grounds & paths: Our pollinator garden (thank you to the Master
Gardeners who created this) had so many honey bees, bumble bees, beautiful
orange, white with black markings "web moths", Monarchs, Tiger swallow
tails, Cabbage whites, Carolina wren, House sparrows,  Song sparrows,
Catbird, 1 Goldfinch,
2 Vireos  -not sure which kind (possibly warbling vireo?)- with pale yellow
sides, whitish belly and chest, pale grayish head-feeding high in tree in
front of center building, Robins, cardinals, grackles and about 13 mourning
doves.
Brief walk on Long Island sound- 4 Oystercatchers (adults), 2 Semipalmated
plovers, 2 Snowy egrets, 1 Red winged blackbird, Mockingbird,  5 American
Black ducks, tree swallows.
full report on ebird.
