I should add that Zeranski & Baptist (1990) have very informative species accounts for the three scoter species found historically in Connecticut prior to 1990. For Black Scoter, Z&B state, “On October 22 1933, a late night fog caused the grounding of more than 300 birds [Black Scoters] at Norfolk, and many died (Auk 51:228).
