Fwd: Nighthawks in Ashford
Tue, Sep 1, 2009 3:05 AM
I would estimate 300-400 birds, maybe more as some were farther down in the valley and did not see them until I was driving down the road to count swifts!

Juncos galore
Wed, Nov 11, 2009 2:48 PM
Only Tree swallows (8), but out of nowhere a huge flock of Juncos came in moving north up river...some moving on, other hitting up the thickets along the river near the dock. 150 is a very low estimate. One of which was the closest I've seen to a White-hybrid...

Stratford yard/woods-
Thu, Jan 7, 2010 1:32 PM
I live in condos, and I have a yard that is about 30'x30' (very generous estimate). I have feeders on both sides of the yard, and one about 40-50 yards away on a tree that is against wood edges to allow birds to fly from one to another, yada yada... This morning there were 27 turkeys total, and 18 in my small patch of grass I like to call my backyard.

Gulls plankton-feeding begins, LBBG
Wed, Feb 29, 2012 6:29 PM
I was joined at Long Beach by Charlie Barnard, where I estimated 1000 gulls (60% Ring-billed, 40% Herring), including the LBBG and 1 Bonaparte's. By 11:30 the flock had dispersed somewhat, as well as was blown much farther offshore towards Bridgeport. Then the rain began.

ABC estimates that by 2030, there will likely be more than 100,000 wind turbines in the United States, and these are expected to kill at least one million birds each year – probably significantly more.

Sept 20 migration - Ajax
Sun, Sep 21, 2003 4:26 AM
I estimate that about 5 thrushes per second are flying over my house in Ajax as we speak ... I listened for about 20 minutes and the numbers stayed consistently within this range. Most are Swainson's, but a several Grey-cheeked are also evident. Additionally many warblers are flying as well.

PINERY PARK. TUFTED TITMOUSE CAPITAL?
Sat, Feb 28, 2004 2:57 PM
Two years ago My estimate was 36 Pairs of TUFTED TITMICE in the northern half of LAMBTON COUNTY. Since then they have kept on multiplying. They must be filling some vacant niche.

[Ontbirds]Parasitic Jaeger, shorebirds at Presqu'ile
Mon, Aug 23, 2004 1:21 PM
Of interest was one adult Baird's (my latest date for an adult) mixed in with an estimated 67 juv's. Although Presqu'ile has long been known as one of the Province's better Baird's locations, these recent numbers are way above the typical annual maximums which are usually in the 25-30 range.

At one time we counted 22 Bald Eagles in the air at the same time, and conservatively estimated a total of 36 Bald Eagles in the area between Nanticoke Rd. ( 55 ) in the west. and Sandusk Rd to the east, and Concession 2 ( Road 3 ) to the north, down to Lake Erie.
