Re: [time-nuts] HP 5335a opt 40 addendum

You should learn to estimate drift rate and subtract that from measurements, since that is often ignored and the drift rate will form a lower floor for longer measurement runs. This is an error which is either canceled by locking or by software. Cheers, Magnus

Which sort of makes sense because you can directly observe high-noon, but midnight can only be estimated. -Chuck Harris David C. Partridge wrote: > Local Solar Time noon would still be 12:00:00. > > If I remember correctly, the one that has noon as 00:00:00 is Astronomical > time (e.g.

It can be used as an accurate source of time and location to feed a solar or celestial direction estimate.

Re: [time-nuts] FE-5680A ("New" version) fine frequency adjust

Frequency dividers eats the flip-flops quickly, so with known ratios it becomes easy to estimate remaining terms. Reverse-engineering is fun and you learn things. Somebody drawing a schematics in the process? Even partial schematics can be of help. Cheers, Magnus

Re: [time-nuts] Experience with THS788 from TI?

If you average over many samples, all of these will get you a better estimate. How much better depends on a bunch of things. The TI part *could* do very well if you have a 200 MHz signal to look at.

Re: [time-nuts] Grinding crystals...

Does anybody have any estimates on what the performance of a hermetically sealed crystal is compared to an old non-sealed mounting? (Do they still make the old non-sealed mounting?) I also remember getting several crystals cut to order, one each for me and a few friends.

Defective High Performance Crystal Oscillators

Please contact me offline and let me know the make and model, what's wrong with the device(s), and the estimated shipping cost. Least expensive method is preferred. This is a long-term project. I plan to build a history of failure modes across a broad range of products so we can understand the reliability issues better. Thanks, Mike Monett

Re: [time-nuts] Local Solar Time Clock

Hi I’d bet that you can do some sort of simple fit to +/- 3 days from today and get a reasonable estimate of the rate. Exactly what you would fit might vary over the year.

6/16 - Fairfield, Jennings Beach

I am happy to say that I far exceeded my goal, as well as my estimate of breeding pairs left in Fairfield (which has now doubled!!). I also recorded my highest count of thrashers at any one location in my entire life.
