Common Redpoll and Rusty Blackbirds

I would conservatively estimate that the flock has now surpassed 400 birds! I also have several of the green morph Siskins among them. The American Goldfinch have decreased to less than 25 I'd say... the siskins are dominating everything.

Stratford Point birds in numbers
Thu, Mar 19, 2009 8:46 PM
I estimated about 3,500 individuals, with a steady stream of newcomers arriving constantly. The bulk of the birds seemed concentrated on the slightly submerged sand bar that parallels the breakwater, but many hundred gulls were sitting near the water line on the Short Beach.

Stratford yard/woods-

I have an estimated 5-6 hummers coming around at different times. Two gnatcatchers on the edge of the woods this morning. Two vocal red-shoulders yesterday. Lots of barn swallows moving overhead last night, at least 2 Cliff swallows mixed in with barns, a few rough-wings, and many swifts. Both house and Carolina wrens have been noisy.

Torrington -- 100s Common Nighthawk
Sat, Aug 22, 2009 11:19 PM
I'm estimating between 300-500 birds total. They were still present when I got home, around 7 PM but the sky is clearing now and they may end up moving a bit before bedding down for the night. The flocks seem to be moving more directionally than before and appear to be heading west. Mohawk Mountain could be really interesting tomorrow at daybreak!

>From Frank & Linda Mantlik 2/20 Stratford, Long Beach, about 11am - Linda & I estimated about 40 COMMON REDPOLLS in the same location. They were mostly on the ground and could easily be missed, except occasionally would fly up onto weeds or the snow fencing.

Cave Swallow - Niagara River
Fri, Nov 22, 2002 1:34 AM
The estimate of RW Swallows was (what?) near 80 birds. There was at least double that tonight. I had over 60 in a tree perched, and over 20 over the parking lot with at least as many over the water. No Tree or any other swallow. Pete M indicated that he also saw a Thayer's down below, and some LBB Gulls, but no kittiwake.

We found them, could not count them, but I estimate that there were a minimum of ten flying around and perching. Direction from Jarvis on HW 6 south of Hamilton: take HW 3 east go right on regional road 53 and left on concession road 6. Across from the Raptor Reserve on concession road 6.
