[Ontbirds] Hoary Redpolls
Sun, Jan 9, 2011 2:50 PM
The flock reshapes itself regularly so it is difficult to estimate how many are really here. The 8 were all visible at one time so there are likely many more. Please contact me privately if you wish to come to our place to watch.

[Ontbirds] Bourget Snow Geese and more
Sun, Apr 14, 2013 7:21 PM
At noon, skien after skien came in, the several observers present lost track after hitting a staggering estimate of 100,000. While the vast majority were white phase there were multiple solid flocks of blue phase, suggesting that there was a mixture of Greater and Lessers involved. We were able to see two Ross, but more were probably present.

We started at Lake Dore, taking advantage of excellent early morning lighting, where there were large numbers of Bonaparte's Gull, estimated at 150: the headline bird was a crisp adult Little Gull which did several flybys.

[Ontbirds] Huge number of Common Loons in Barrie
Sat, Nov 14, 2015 12:13 AM
On Friday 13 Nov 2015 I estimated the number of COMMON LOONS Loons in a loose, swimming raft at at least 2,300 birds. I was at Minet’s Point Park in Barrie at around 10 a.m. I could not find any Pacific Loons among them, but there was at least one adult RED-THROATED LOON.

[Ontbirds] Large Number Pine Warblers - Lake Boshkung, Haliburton Cty
Sat, Aug 13, 2016 10:53 PM
Very conservative estimate would be 25+ recently fledged (still begging to be fed) and 10+ adults, and very possibly more. If you have a boat and are in the area, you won't be able to miss the begging calls with a slow drive/paddle past the island.

Both vendors will supply load estimating guides. The simplest method is Total Load (BTUs) = 17 x volume (cuFt) + 150 x window area (sqFt) for each zone. A more accurate method uses surface area instead of volume, and accounts for the R values of each surface - the Carrier HVAC program uses this approach.
