When asked what the total number of cars coming from the parking lot in a typical weekday, the traffic analyst estimated that 400-500 cars would use the parking lot ramp each day (counting a round trip as two uses of the ramp). .

[Ontbirds] Presqu'ile Birding Report for Week Ending February 24, 2011.
Fri, Feb 25, 2011 1:10 AM
REDHEADS numbered an estimated 2,000 and GREATER SCAUP an estimated 6,000 on Friday but have dwindled to double digits in the past few days. As I write, the ice is beginning to move out with a change in the wind, and a return of the /Aythya/ ducks can be expected.

Another aspect of survival at sea is the preparation needed to estimate the volume of water observed in the bilge, estimate its rate of entry, trace its source, reduce entry and pump out without power. Until these issues have been addressed, please, do not go out there!

Seasick, Tied at the Dock

I would estimate that the worst of the storm was about 0200 Saturdya, when the power went out in Warrenton east of the Skipannon River. By my definition there were about 3 or 4 gusts near the 100 mph mark during the night. One of them I would estimate went well over that.

Re: T&T: Sail help?
Mon, Jul 14, 2008 4:48 PM
I estimated that the drag of the 18" x 14" prop cost about 20% of the power the sails were capable of producing. When motorsailing, the prop drag is negated and the full power of the sails can be used to add to the propulsion of the boat. On one afternoon last week the wind averaged 20 KT.
