Fwd: Re: TWL: Best tax state

My wife estimated our grocery bill increased about 20% when we >moved here from Indiana. All that said, what I saved myself in income >taxes was more than eaten up by the higher cost of living here. However, >I haven't had to shovel snow once and my boat is docked 25 Ft. from my >back door so I am not complaining!

If a new boat owner is faced with deciding how to upgrade their newly acquired boat; be it 20 years old or straight out of the builder's yard, the total market potential for readership and subscriptions is considerably larger than the PassageMaker editor estimated. I think that editor has become blinkered by BP's dominant personality and mind set.

Well, Wesmar estimates about $23K for my boat and I simply can't believe that it would cost anywhere near that much for paravanes. Unfortunately, Kolstrand (fabricators of the fish) here in Seattle have absolutely no design guidance to offer. I've been taking pictures of F/S rigs that I run across and there is darned little commonality.

. -- In the 1960s, erroneous actions of one kind or another were estimated as contributing about 20% of the causal contributions to major accidents. By the 1990s, the figure had increased fourfold (80%).

So much of the plywood veneers had come off in places that I estimated only an eighth inch more or less, of plywood remained. The boat was literally worthless, IMHO, and I even refused the owner's offer of paying $5,000 for it if he delivered it to Oak Harbor on her own bottom.

The new 47 Nordhavn is very tall, 6+ feet (estimate) over her sister 50. We still like the 48 Krogen North Sea, what a boat and only $900K. Hatteras now uses a transfer system that pumps from the main tanks to day tanks. The interesting part is that the transfer is so easy and has several back ups to keep from overfilling or running dry.

In heavy weather, e.g., surfing conditions, you can see the out of phase wave, coming, you can estimate it's effect and you can start the rudder and throttl e inputs before it arrives. Otto can't. Having used AP10, AP20, WH, ComNav and Raymarine a lot in past few years IMHO they are all okay autopilots but nothing special.

Standard Atmosphere for air density, the equation for Drag in lbs. can be written as: Drag = .00339 x Coefficient of Drag x Knots^2 x Area I suspect that the ABYC is using the flat plate coefficient of drag of 1.28 in their calculations to give a conservative estimate..

But the hull repair estimates alone come to over $85K. Molds have to be built etc. I had a Tiara 3100 and it performed extremely well for us, esp in rough seas. We had many memorable trips to the Bahamas, but it is time to move into the trawler world that we have been eyeing for around a year now. Close one door, open another. Thank God for insurance!!

Re: T&T: Experiences with hiring delivery captain?

In a contract, all anticipated costs and contingencies are estimated in writing. Scheduling deliveries - with all the weather, mechanical, availability variables - is challenging. I had a couple "handshake" deals early where the owner changed their mind and I was left with 10 days of dead time.
