Stonely estimated that 300 colleges in the United States now offer co-op programs, and that number is growing, he said. "Many educators and industrialists around the world believe this is the best way to prepare for your future profession," Mr. Stonely wrote in an e-mail. Parents tend to be attracted to the programs, too, he said.

Renowned Trial Attorney Donates Law Library to Texas Southern University

Jamail's gift has an estimated $3 million value. TSU officials hope to have the materials ready for student and faculty use by this fall, if not sooner. In announcing the donation last week, Jamail credited Texas state Senator Rodney Ellis, a TSU alumnus, with steering him toward TSU.

Pell Grant Restrictions Hurt Enrollment at Community Colleges in the South, Study Finds

The authors of the report estimate that the changes mean nearly 17,000 students across the three states will lose their Pell Grant eligibility this year. Many states have started to see their economies improve, prompting students to find jobs and leave school.

'It Can Wait' Campaign Seeks End to Texting and Driving

The Claflin University community experienced just how real those statistics are during a demonstration last month. AT&T teamed up with the university in the "It Can Wait" campaign.

Ultimately, an estimated 8,000 Foot Soldiers left Selma on March 21, 1965, and successfully marched to Montgomery to peacefully protest restrictive voting laws that prevented African-Americans from voting.
