Savings of $16.5 billion > > These cuts total $167 billion, so we’re not sure if they have a small increase in something (seems unlikely), have some different estimates than Democratic staff who provided this information (possible), or something else is going on. However, the student aid cuts add up to $150 billion!

An estimated 1,500 LONG-TAILED DUCKS were noted at Point Traverse on Saturday. COMMON LOONS were seen at Lake-on-the-Mountain (1) on Saturday, and 3 at Consecon Lake, where 28 MUTE SWANS a swimmin' were also noted, along with a single BELTED KINGFISHER that flew by.

An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was found near the Prince Edward Point lighthouse on the 20th and a 150 YELLOW WARBLERS were estimated to be present in the area on the 17th when members of the Kingston Field Naturalists conducted their annual spring round-up.

Longridge is an important site for knots with a one-day estimate of 5,000 in the late 1970s. Mark Peck (ROM) is a Canadian member of an international team studying knots. The ROM group is also studying Yellow Rails and they are helping other researchers collect data on Northern Harriers, Whimbrels, Black Terns, Short-eared Owls, frogs and toads.

Considering that the most recent estimate of Ontario’s Marbled Godwit population is a ”few 1000s (see the Ontario Shorebird Conservation Plan; Ross et al. 2003), a substantial portion of the Ontario population was observed in a couple of kilometers. Hudsonian Godwits were also numerous with nearly 1,000 observed on most days with a high of 1,876 on July 24.

Hermit Thrush - 259 were estimated to be at the Tip October 9 (LPBO). Wood Thrush - One was observed south of Delhi October 5 (MF). Orange-crowned Warbler - Numerous individuals were observed and banded throughout the period (LPBO). Hooded Warbler - One individual was observed October 8 and a first basic male banded October 9 at Old Cut (LPBO).

Bonaparte's Gull - A conservative estimate of 10,000 birds were at the Tip October 18 (LPBO). Little Gull - Eight were observed at the Tip October 19 (LPBO), and one was observed at Old Cut October 23 (SAM, HBM). A high of 18 were at the Turkey Point beach October 19 (LHB).
