The fully electronic engines pump huge quantities of fuel to help cool the
fueling system. Our Tier 2, 2009 QSB 5.9 burns 2.5gph at 7.2kt. The fuel
pump is pushing 50 GPH!

I haven't measured with precision but my 1964 Cat D330-TA, nothing
electronic about it, appears to pump over 40 gals/hour and burns 2 to
7 depending on how hard I push it. My normal "cruise" is about 1350
rpm and about 3 g/h.
I have done rough measurements by pulling from one tank and returning
to the other and verified that excess return was in the vicinity of 40
g/h.
I believe I saw a spec for the fuel pump somewhere that said something
about pumping 40 g/h, but I probably couldn't find that again.
