Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsHi:
I'm using eSeaChart with the Active Captain data. Appears all NOAA chart based raster
Is there an Apps / Active Caption combination that works for the rivers listed above?
My cruising is mostly the entire Upper Mississippi
Many thanks

Active Captain does not support ios nor android apps. It does not tsupport the USCOE charts, only the NOAA charts which do not cover inland waters e.g. WesternRivers.

The app that is available for iOS/Android only shows NOAA charts, but it
will show maps for areas that are not covered by NOAA charts (the
inland rivers, Canada, etc).
If you go to the Active Captain web site using any computer or
iOS/Android app browser, you can get the info you want. You can even
download routes for those areas; you just can't see the NOAA charts
(since there aren't any).

FYI... I was chatting with Jeff at Active Captain about this subject and
here was his response. (From the horse's mouth)
The upcoming Garmin app is the one that'll be wanted for inland rivers.
It has support for the entire US including both coasts, inland rivers,
Great Lakes, and even Explorer Charts in the Bahamas. I'm a tester of the
app - it's close. It should be out soon. We're write about it when it's
released in our newsletter.
Otherwise, PolarView for PC and Mac has full IENC support with
ActiveCaptain overlays although that's for PC's and Mac's.
I hope this helps,

I am using Polar View for PC now. Works great with a $25 hockey puck USB.
