Tacoma Food Co-Op To Pursue Retail Location on 6th Avenue
Tacoma, WA – (November 8, 2010) —
On Monday, October 25th, Tacoma Food Co-op members held their second
annual meeting. Members enjoyed a potluck meal, discussed future plans
for a retail location, and held Board elections. Prizes from local
businesses were raffled off throughout the meeting. The Co-op also
welcomed new members at the meeting; 299 members have now joined.
Members voted with 96% approval to proceed with negotiations on a
retail location, secure financing (potentially including member loans,
additional stock, and bank/credit union loans), and hire a general
manager. The Board has been researching and analyzing full retail
store options after it determined that a partial store was not a
financially feasible option. The location in question is the
Neighborhood Market at 6th and Junett. The terms from owner John
Loesch include a two-year deferral of payments for the purchase of the
business, except that the Co-op would pay rent on the building.
New Board members voted in at the meeting include Beverly
Bowen-Bennett, Mandy Landa, Geoff Lawrence, Robert More, Tad Saine,
and Jaime Smith. Returning board members include Molly Archer,
Casandra Gorell, and Corrinne Henderson. Molly Archer will continue as
Board Treasurer; Robert More is the incoming Board Secretary; Casandra
Gorell will continue as Board Vice President; and Corrinne Henderson
is the incoming Board President. The Board wishes to thank outgoing
Board President Amber Englund and outgoing Board Secretary David
Hanson.
