Hi! Glad to see this list finally get underway. We're Keith and Gayle
Emmons, home port Houston, TX. Cruising grounds so far are the Gulf coast,
but we have plans to do the great loop, Caribbean, and possibly one of the
Atlantic Rallies like Nordhavn did this year.
I picked the Krogen 42 because it had the perfect combination of performance
and price for me. It may not be quite up to the standards of a Nordhavn, but
it leaves us $$ for cruising. We still need to add stabilizers and a wing
engine, so that'll come over the next couple of years. With some storm
plates and good weather, she should be able to cross the Atlantic, but we
really don't any Pacific plans other than maybe coastal cruising.
I've done a lot of refurbishing on the boat, including almost all new
electronics, replaced every piece of rubber on the engine, genset and all
the thru-hulls, hull peel and blister repair, installed a bow thruster...
the list goes on and on.
Looking forward to meeting you "out there"!

Keith, Gayle and others--
There is a good possibility a North Atlantic Rally will develop in
the wake of the successful Nordhavn experience. I'm involved in the
organizing group, and I'll be keeping the list informed as
developments occur.

Georgs,
There was a Nordhavn in the NAR which had aboard two Furuno 500 autopilots.
Do you happen to know if they had a good experience with that model? I think
she was a 47.

I'm not sure which boat had two Furunos but I'll check and report back.

Georgs - I think "Strictly for Fun" was the only 47 in the fleet and had to
radars.

John, I'm trying to raise Scott Strickland but I do know he did not
have Furuno autopilots.
Ron, were you asking about autopilots or radar?

Georgs,
I was asking about dual Furuno 500 autopilots. One respondent said that they
were on Jim's escort vessel. I saw mention of it on an electronics site
which provided no details and may have gotten the vessel's length wrong.
Another respondent asked a major East Coast vendor about the Furuno and they
steered him away from it. Same thing happened to me with another large
installer on Chesapeake Bay. I thought that there might be some synergy
between a networked, Furuno radar with ARPA and a Furuno autopilot, but, at
this time that may be my fantasy.
COMNAV says that they can use my existing Wood-Freeman hydraulic pump with
their front-end - also appealing.
Thank you,
Ron Rogers
