Just this moment, I got the unofficial word from a very official person: They are making some very good progress on the Erie Canal, they have contractors with appropriate equipment already working on site now. The damage is minor. Barring any undiscovered damage they think the Erie may open in about 10 days. Water levels at Waterford have dropped a foot and a half, now about even with the top of the pier. After so many floods, Canal Corp is getting really good at this stuff, and management knows what they are doing. There is some rain in the forecast which may affect all this, but it's expected to be minor. Fred Tug 44
