Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsSpeaking of insurance...I don't do much 'price shopping' for insurance but
have had BoatUS give me estimates a couple of times, though they were based
on minimal information from me. I use Al Golden and Markel. When I moved the
boat from SW Florida to the Tennessee River area, I had a nice decrease in
premiums! I pay $4,257 for my 41' Linssen, hardly an inexpensive boat!
Gordon lost his 53' motorsailer in Charlie which was not insured for enough
(they said) but he was satisfied with BoatUS insurance. They settled quickly
and adequately. His boat was sold for salvage to someone in Miami.
I think people coming from inland US fail to realize the tremendous losses
suffered on the coast the past couple of years in hurricanes. Insurance
companies have taken great losses and thus premiums for those areas simply
have to go up! One reason I do NOT keep my boat here where I live in Alabama
It's just too difficult to outrun these storms each time they blow in!
