FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 5, 2018

MEDIA ALERT

What:  KNKX has secured a space for its new studios at the historic C.N. Gardner Building in the heart of Tacoma’s downtown Theater District.  The location will enable KNKX to increase its South Sound news coverage; provide more opportunities for live and local music performances; convene civic conversations; and extend its educational outreach to area students.

88.5 KNKX’s Tacoma studios have been located on the campus of Pacific Lutheran University since 1966.  In 2016, the community raised $7 million in 137 days to save the station, and purchase the license from PLU. The terms of the sale require that KNKX move off the PLU campus by June of 2019. KNKX must begin broadcasting from its new Tacoma home by July 1, 2019. KNKX has operated studios in downtown Seattle for over 30 years, and also has plans to expand its Seattle presence.

Media and other interested parties are invited to the public announcement of the station’s future homes in Tacoma and Seattle by KNKX President and General Manager Joey Cohn including an overview of the station’s plans for the new studios, and how KNKX plans to expand its programming and community connections through these new homes. A Q&A follows and attendees are welcome to walk through the station's new space in Tacoma. There will be live music from the Kareem Kandi World Orchestra. Photo, video and interview opportunities are available.
