Yesterday Sept. 25th Bob Tyler and I birded Ward’s Island and though it was foggy in the morning with poor light and with most birds staying high in the trees we did manage to find some birds.

The following two or three weeks should start to show an increase in sparrow species as well as Phoebes and Wrens, especially on Hanlan’s Point.
****Important - For 3 days only -Sept. 28th, 29th and 30th days only the Ward’s Island ferry will be going to Hanlan’s Point while repairs, etc. are being done to Ward’s ferry dock. The schedule for those days is the Ward’s ferry schedule. The first boat at 6:30 am.
Note:- Both washrooms are open on Ward's as is the one at the city side of the docks but the washroom on the ferry is closed due to Corvid. Some but not all of the water fountains are working but you can obtain water in the washrooms. There is also a washroom at the Island Fire Station west of the ferry dock.
There are no washrooms or fountains on Algonquin Island and no washrooms on Snake Island.
On Snake Island, there is a water drinking fountain and a water fountain for filling a bucket or pail.
The Riviera Café just east of the bridge onto Algonquin Island (west of the ferry dock) is open 7 days a week but this could change so you may want to check at https://www.islandriviera.com/
The Island Café straight out from the ferry dock is closed until further notice.
The number of Island visitors has decreased since labour Day but the number of Frisbie players on Ward’s Island seemed to have increased so be alert in the course area.
Masked wearing is mandatory on the ferries.
Another Note:- The Island ferry schedules - Be aware that the Fall Schedule is posted under the Summer Schedule for some reason and there are some drastic changes First boat to Hanlan’s is at 10:30 am, the first boat to Centre is at 10:00 am and the first boat to Ward’s is at 6:30 am. These times are for all 7 days of the week.
Note:- All 3 washrooms are open on Hanlan’s as is the one at the city side of the docks but the washroom on the ferry is closed due to Corvid. Some but not all of the water fountains are working but you can obtain water in the washrooms.
The Mermaid Café was open when we were there today where you can purchase soft drinks, snacks, etc. The café is just south of the Tennis Courts on Hanlan’s Point, but it may now only be open on the weekend.
