Hi all,
The Raven Lunatics tallied 191 species on this year's Big Day, one less than last year, and two off our highest total. It was a very clean run with a great night flight on Sunday into Monday morning inland, but with very few migrant warblers anywhere. We tallied 25 species of warblers (about average) including Bay-breasted and Kentucky (rare). Highlights included Olive-sided and Yellow-bellied Flycatchers, and Red Knot, but otherwise nothing extraordinary. Thanks to those who sent us information or helped with scouting, especially Phil Rusch. Connecticut has a wonderful birding community, and we really appreciate everyone's support!
This year's Big Day run benefits the New Canaan Nature Center. Thank you for supporting this wonderful center and its work. If anyone would like to donate, it's not too late. See below to download a pledge form or visit the Nature Center's webpage to pledge online. A link to the excellent Scientific American Article about last year's Big Day is also included.

Thanks again, folks!  I'm off to get some sleep.

Hi all,

As many of you may have heard, the Raven Lunatics Big Day Birding Team tallied 191 species on this year's Big Day, one less than last year, and two off our highest total. We had a very clean run and tallied 25 species of warblers including Bay-breasted and Kentucky (rare), with other highlights such as Olive-sided and Yellow-bellied Flycatchers, and Red Knot.

I've just added a link to my Birding in Connecticut Facebook page where I've posted the list for the day. Here's the link:  https://www.facebook.com/Birding-In-Connecticut-865999976907526.
The Big Day is used as a way to support local non-profits. As you all know, the last few years have been tough on them, so any support is most welcome. This year's Big Day benefits the New Canaan Nature Center. Thank you for supporting this wonderful center and its work. If anyone would like to donate, it's not too late!! Please use the links below to download a pledge form or visit the Nature Center's webpage to pledge online.

Ps. I'll be leading a trip to Boston Hollow, Ashford to find northern Breeders, including both waterthrushes, Hermit Thrush, Black-throated Blue, and Black-throated Green Warblers, Blackburnian, Magnolia, and Nashville Warblers and much more. We'll also try for Hooded and Cerulean. Both Cuckoos are also possible. See the Sunrisebirding.com webpage for details.
