There were dozens of requirements - probably the most valuable was an hour +
inspection by three very skilled people (free).

I agree with John, except I would include the hours from
Lugger, Fureno, Village Maine (watermaker) as very valuble.

I also learned alot about how other boaters prepare
to cross oceans.  While not as useful as the free reviews,
also valuable.
In addition I got to see how many other boats handled
the seas.  That was really interesting.
Having cleared in/out of countries where it took most of
the day, the NAR clearing in of 5 minutes or less was nice!
Having the bulk discount on the fuel was great, that saved me
thousands!  Waiting days till it was my turn for fuel was
like waiting for the fuel to arrive at the pumps in Mexico
for me.

NOTHING was more valuable then Nordhavn's recommended spares
list customized for your model and hull number!
Some boats had a history of cetain items failing, they knew
and told you, that was GREAT!
I also really benefited from the pretrip survey list.  I use
that to prepare our boat for each trip.  It was not some
general list, it covered OUR boat equipment.
Finally the manuals and checklists were also very valuable.
While I had a bunch, it was nice to get ones customized for


My comment on requirements I  thought were less useful

  1. Skymate, I am still having problems with it.
  2. Extra flares.
  3. A/C dewatering system.  (I have a DC one that is less
    then 8,000 gph but does not need A/C power).
  4. Bucket.  While I had them, I am not sure what good
    they would do on a powerboat big enough to cross the Atlantic.
    In reviewing the list now after the NAR it makes more sense
    then it did before going.

Notes:
I did not have a MOB pole, I just went with Lifesling and
light.  It was listed as an option in appendix C-2.
The towing eye for me was over a thousand dollars.  I hated the
requirement.  I understand why Nordhavn had the requirement,
it is less safe to tow a boat from 9 feet above the water.
The 47 bow is 9 feet above the waterline.  Lower lines helps
control the bow from hunting and burying itself which puts
unnecessary stain on the tow boat.
Nordhavn had to be prepared to tow a vessel.  If I was going
to have to tow a vessel a thousand miles, I would want to
be towing from the waterline.
Do not give waivers for Radar Reflector.  Every boat needs
a good one ehrn in a convoy.  One of our boats did not
have one and could not be seen by some radars.
Do not have boats give position by lat, long but by position
from one boat!  That way we can know how is coming too close on
the port side!
I would require a second VHF from inside the pilothouse.
A handheld with plug in 12 volt power supply would be acceptable.
This is due to the number of conversations that took place
off channel 16, this limed the abilty to call someone
comming in close too you.

Best suggestion for the next NAR!
Better advice for installing and using a pasarellel.
