Practically every South African built catamaran in service in the
Caribbean arrived from down south on its own bottom. Ditto the French
built cats in service here and all the US built boats. I have numerous
cat customers whose boats are in crewed charter and every year either
cross to the Med or head up to New England for the summer and return
here for the winter season. Yes, there is the potential for inversion,
but there is probably less danger of that than a Grand Banks flooding
from having its ridiculously large windows shattered by a breaking
wave.
Thinking of the "Andrea Gail", how many monohulls do you see with
dinghies and heavy lifts on the upper decks, seriously degrading what
stability exists with semi displacement hulls. These boats are
probably less suited to being offshore than a power cat.
