Hatteras LRCs

You didn't say what size LRC or what the intended use was.
The 42 does not have the range.  The 48 has about 2000 mile range--and would have to have some storm shutters for some of the larger windows.  The 58, 65 and 77 have the range and probably are capable of crossing the Atlantic given the right weather conditions.  Today's weather routing would make this quite possiable.

These are classic boats and have a lot going for them.  They are relitatively inexpensive and have held value well.  They have fiberglass tankage and good range.  On the negitive side they are a semidisplacment vessel and in severe storm conditions could have some serious handling problems.  Many semi displacment boats like this have made passages.  I certainly would address the large window issue--even in the larger boats.  I would also want to hear the experience of a knowlable skipper in handling these boats in heavy weather.

Also these boats are close to 30 years old.  Refitting is not cheap--and by the time you went thru all systems and brought them up to voyaging standards, they may not seem like the bargins.

I would like to also hear about real world heavy weather passages with the
LRCs.  About 5000 miles under this LRCs keel since I bought her, but the
worst was about 10' seas..no problem there.  I have never heard anything
about serious handling problems, am all ears :-).  My goal is to take my
'65 to Hawaii and back.

The LRC is a good value and it seems that most take better care of the LRC
than your normal Hatteras, refits might not be as severe as one might think
dollar wise.  Good info at www.http://www.hatteraslrc.com/ and they just
put my boat on the main page!
