Our office received across the board reductions in contractual and
commodity line items last year and we expect to make similar reductions
this year. As a result, our CLE training has been focused on local
seminars put on by state or local bar associations or law schools, with
the occasional privately offered seminar if the topic and presenter are
of particular interest.
We have not been in attendance at recent IMLA events due to the
aforementioned budget reductions. As a new attorney in this field, this
doesn't help my professional development as it would certainly be
beneficial to meet others of you on this listserv and other members of
IMLA generally to exchange ideas and learn from others' experiences.
Hopefully as the economy turns around more opportunities will come in
future years.

During these difficult economic times, most of your municipalities have
probably experienced budget cuts. Often out of state training is one of
the first cuts. I am curious as to how many of your municipalities have
cut the travel and training and how that has impacted your
opportunities.
Our office was forced to reduce its travel and training budget by 30
percent. We are taking advantage of cheaper alternatives for training
such as IMLA's telephone conferences or seminars put on by local bar
associations or the attorney general's office.
How have any cuts impacted your opportunities to travel for training?
What are some alternatives you have explored?
Speaking of travel and training, is anyone planning to attend the
Mid-Year Conference? I am attending as well as one of the Young Lawyer
Members from Las Vegas. It would be nice to meet with any other members
during the conference. Please let me know if you will attend so I can
make arrangements for the group to meet.

Although I am with a private firm, out-of-town CLSs have, for the most part, been nixed. I have not explored any alternative options yet but I am open for suggestions.
