Hello All -

Because of COVID-19, the scheduled June 2020 solo show of my artwork at
Alma Mater Art Space was cancelled. In its place, I welcome you into my
home for a ten minute-long video, featuring an artist talk and tour of my
collage show entitled "I had the strangest feeling".

I started making collages on a lark because I had so many printed images of
my photographs. The work became so enjoyable and compelling that I shifted
my focus from photography to collage. I don't have preconceived ideas of
what a piece will look like when I start the work. Even if I do have a goal
for a piece, collage has a mind of its own and turns a piece away from my
original idea.

This video is posted at the Home Page of my website. If you click on the
collage page, you'll be able to see many of my collage pieces that were not
featured in the video.

I want to thank the City of Tacoma's Office of Arts & Cultural Vitality for
their generous recognition of my work through the Tacoma Artist Initiative
Program grant. The funding from this grant is responsible for the
production of this show. In particular, I want to thank Naomi Strom-Avila,
Funding & Cultural Program Manager; Amy McBride, Tacoma Arts Administrator;
and the Tacoma Arts Commissioners. The Arts Commission is a 15 member
volunteer board that works behind the scenes funding and developing art
programs and projects throughout the city. The City of Tacoma is known for
its support of artists and it is these people who lead this support.

I appreciate your taking time to look at my work.

Thank you,

Sharon Styer
