Well Georgs I am happy to hear that you are thinking of going to see
the plant where the MC-30 is built. I will be eagerly awaiting any
report you care to make about construction quality, sea-keeping
ability, livability etc. I know this boat is not a passage maker but
that is okay with me. I am thinking about a boat for the Loop. The
idea of catamaran is really appealing as a loop boat in terms of
shallow draft, better fuel efficiency and a higher speed (I am looking
for 12-15 knots). I really like the PDQ 34 but it is out of my reach
especially since the Admiral only likes the 2005 model with the
improved galley. Maybe the MC-30 would work for us.
I have heard that some of the early MC-30s were built to European
standards and had some minor difficulties in the U.S. such as being
equipped with fire extinguishers and PFDs that were not Coast Guard
approved. This is relatively minor but I am interested in whether the
wiring meets American standards. Also, how sturdy is that drop down
ramp in the bow and does it affect hull integrity or seaworthiness?
How do you get to the bow and is there a way to handle the lines when
going through locks? Curious minds would like to know.
As far as trailer-ability goes, I suppose the MC-30 is more like being
transportable. However, it would not be as expensive to move as a boat
that requires a pilot car. Since I plan to put it in the water and
leave it there more or less I think this would work for me. Anyway, I
will looking forward to reading what you have to say about it after
your trip.
Kris, yes the name is Polish and I am happy to be an American of Polish
extraction. Now, if I were a rich American of Polish extraction, I
could go see the boat myself. :-)

John and others--
I'll be glad to provide a report to the List. I'll have with me a
printout of John's questions and will endeavor to get answers during
my visit the week of September 18.
