Fred will get both you and your boat to safe harbor even quicker if you
tell him there is copious amounts of red wine aboard. Reading between the
lines,  that is the "whatever else you need" part of the story. Not all bad
however as  you will come away with a great knowledge of the Erie Canal.

Jim  Elsevier,

Up here in the frozen north, we study the snow pack very  closely ...
because when spring hits, it all melts and flows into the  canals.  If the
snowpack is light, the Canals open early and all is  well.  When the snow
is
deep, the canals flood and bring death &  destruction.  Seriously.  It was
difficult boating on the Erie  last year with the cars and houses floating
in the canal.

I live on  the NY Canals, and what I see out my window today will affect
you
in  May.

Yes, we do try to make light of it, because if we took this mess
seriously,
we'd all have moved to Florida years ago.

I think we  will be good this spring, in spite of recent snowfall, but if
you get  stuck, contact me and I will get you and your boat to safe harbor,
and  then visit you regularly for the duration and take you to the food
store  or whatever you need.  That's how we do things on the NY Canals, and

that's how I spent half my summer last year.  Me and dozens of other
"teenagers" just like me.

On the other hand, I do live for  practical jokes and general mayhem, so
watch out ...

I joined this group to get good info on boats, cruising,  voyaging and
would
like to know how to get out of the "loop" for the  teenage exchanges on the
weather.
