Hello,

I'm a little confused by what is driving the rule change.  When I have been fortunate enough to attend IMLA conferences, I have never noticed a shortage of moderators.  Likewise, every two months I get an Municipal Lawyer magazine that is full of interesting and informative articles.  In the past, I have been both a moderator and had an article in the ML.  However, I believe the rule change would have been better suited as an aspirational goal for fellows, rather than a mandate.

IMLA also, in the past, added a requirement that fellows attend two IMLA seminars for renewal, rather than one.  That is a substantial financial burden for many of us.  Times are tight for cities.  I guess I have a general feeling that the rules for fellows are being changed after the game has been played.

When I have been fortunate enough to attend IMLA conferences, I have never noticed a shortage of moderators. Likewise, every two months I get an Municipal Lawyer magazine that is full of interesting and informative articles. In the past, I have been both a moderator and had an article in the ML. However, I believe the rule change would have been better suited as an aspirational goal for fellows, rather than a mandate. IMLA also, in the past, added a requirement that fellows attend two IMLA seminars for renewal, rather than one. That is a substantial financial burden for many of us. Times are tight for cities. I guess I have a general feeling that the rules for fellows are being changed after the game has been played. Hello,

I’m a little confused by what is driving the rule change.  When I have
been fortunate enough to attend IMLA conferences, I have never noticed a
shortage of moderators.  Likewise, every two months I get an Municipal
Lawyer magazine that is full of interesting and informative articles.  In
the past, I have been both a moderator and had an article in the ML.
However, I believe the rule change would have been better suited as an
aspirational goal for fellows, rather than a mandate.

IMLA also, in the past, added a requirement that fellows attend two IMLA
seminars for renewal, rather than one.  That is a substantial financial
burden for many of us.  Times are tight for cities.  I guess I have a
general feeling that the rules for fellows are being changed after the game
has been played.

I am unable to participate in the telephone call, due to a last minute business commit. I agree with the concerns expressed.  The new requirements and current issues with financing and COVID restrictions will make it difficult for many (including myself) to renew fellow designations.

I’m a little confused by what is driving the rule change.  When I have been fortunate enough to attend IMLA conferences, I have never noticed a shortage of moderators.  Likewise, every two months I get an Municipal Lawyer magazine that is full of interesting and informative articles.  In the past, I have been both a moderator and had an article in the ML.  However, I believe the rule change would have been better suited as an aspirational goal for fellows, rather than a mandate.

IMLA also, in the past, added a requirement that fellows attend two IMLA seminars for renewal, rather than one.  That is a substantial financial burden for many of us.  Times are tight for cities.  I guess I have a general feeling that the rules for fellows are being changed after the game has been played.

Robert,  The rules were changed about two years ago, although my memory is not what it used to be, so it may not have been so long ago. But certainly a year ago.  We're just trying to make sure in the implementation of the rules changes that people are engaged.  Obviously, the hardship of attending conferences needs to be discussed.  Chuck

I'm a little confused by what is driving the rule change.  When I have been fortunate enough to attend IMLA conferences, I have never noticed a shortage of moderators.  Likewise, every two months I get an Municipal Lawyer magazine that is full of interesting and informative articles.  In the past, I have been both a moderator and had an article in the ML.  However, I believe the rule change would have been better suited as an aspirational goal for fellows, rather than a mandate.

IMLA also, in the past, added a requirement that fellows attend two IMLA seminars for renewal, rather than one.  That is a substantial financial burden for many of us.  Times are tight for cities.  I guess I have a general feeling that the rules for fellows are being changed after the game has been played.
