Restriction of firearms on Municipal property

The City I represent has inquired about posting signs stating "Weapons Prohibited" at City owned Batting cages, Baseball Complex, football fields, and Tennis/Pickleball Courts.  21 OS Section 1277 addresses "Unlawful Carry in Certain Places" and contains many exceptions and limitations on regulations of concealed and open carry firearms.  I believe the City can lawfully restrict carrying concealed or unconcealed firearms into structures, buildings, or office space where business is conducted with the public including areas where event permits have been granted with minimum security.  I believe that the City cannot restrict carrying concealed or unconcealed firearms in a park, recreational area, wildlife refuge, wildlife management area or fairgrounds.  Wondering whether the Batting cages, Baseball Complex, football fields, and Tennis/Pickleball Courts would qualify as structures or as a park or recreational area.  Interested to know how other OK cities have dealt with this issue.

Roger, OKC has wrestled with this on several occasions.  I believe the complex, fields, and courts would be found to be a park or recreational area, with the exceptions that you noted.

It looks like a City cannot prohibit weapons in the City owed batting cages or baseball complex.
