Ok, NIST time servers are ok but the main site is not responding.
NIST has multiple time servers.

From here (Silicon Valley), the ones in Gaithersburg, MD are not responding.
I lost contact about 2 hours ago. The ones in Boulder CO are OK.
I assume by "main site" that you are referring to their web server. That
doesn't work from here.
traceroute gets to gwcore5.netg.nist.gov so I guess they have an internal
network problem.

Hi Hal:
Yes. Just got a call back and they know about the problem, but no
estimated time to fix it.
Have Fun,

Well it looks like more government employees don't like the presidents costs
cutting.
I wonder if they are picketing outside of the boulder transmitting
facilities?
Hmmm from google maps that looks like a pretty remote place. Not much media
coverage.

Although this does not seem to be today's problem, there have been DNS problems with .gov domains recently. Signed .gov domains are not validating correctly with DNSSEC and some ISPs DNS setup are more strict than others preventing lookups from completing. For example, weather.gov and noaa.gov were unreachable by Comcast customers for some days. Just something to watch for.
By poking around a few minutes ago I was able to get to one of the NIST web servers and got this: " We're sorry, but this site is undergoing maintenance. It will be returned to service soon.". So I guess they're working some issues...

The internet has been kind of wonky here in Maryland over the last
couple of days. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that someone on
our pipe is getting hammered with a denial of service attack.
